PET TIPS
After hours vet centres may admit several cases simultaneously. As such, our treatment room is open plan, allowing us to observe multiple patients as a time. The treatment room is equipped with modern, comprehensive facilities to stabilise, treat, manage and monitor your pet.
AAE opened in 2005 as a vet clinic Melbourne pet owners of all descriptions can visit when emergency vet services are needed. The clinic is serviced around the clock by eight vets, many of whom have completed post graduate training in critical and emergency vet care.
AAE is a Melbourne animal hospital and after hours vet located at Essendon Airport, located just off the Tullamarine Freeway. As a Melbourne veterinary emergency centre, our centre is permanently staffed with highly-trained emergency vets.

Do I need to make an appointment?
As an emergency vet, Melbourne’s AAE does not make appointments but we ask you ring before coming to the animal hospital. Melbourne pet owners may bring their pets to the 24 hour vet clinic at AAE at any time for emergency and accident treatment.
Do you make house calls?
No, we don’t. If you are having trouble transporting your pet to the animal hospital, Melbourne has services such as pet ambulances which can assist you. Please refer to the Yellow Pages for services to help you get to the animal emergency centre.
Do I need to make payment at the time of consult?
At the end of your consult, your invoice will be ready for payment at the reception desk. Payment is required prior to leaving the 24 hour vet clinic.
We cannot offer accounts or accept cheques but we accept all major credit cards including Diners Club and Amex. There is no surcharge for credit cards.
You can appreciate that as an emergency vet, Melbourne’s AAE receives no government funding.
We do understand that as an animal emergency centre, you may not be able to pay on the spot. As such, we offer a payment plan by GE Care Credit. If you require assistance and would like to apply for a payment plan please inform the staff.
If I have pet insurance do I pay the invoice with you?
If you have pet insurance you will still need to pay the invoice and make a claim with your insurance company. As we can provide the necessary information at the front desk of the veterinary clinic, Melbourne pet owners can lodge claims with insurers but will need to provide a claim form to us.
Can I get my pet microchipped or vaccinated?
As an emergency vet, Melbourne’s AAE does not vaccinate pets or perform routine procedures. As an animal emergency centre we are different to a standard veterinary clinic. Melbourne pets are being provided with a high level of care and specialised services.
We perform advanced testing and monitoring that standard veterinary clinics Melbourne-wide are unable to provide.
Do you look at rabbits, birds or other unusual pets?
As a specialised animal hospital, Melbourne’s AAE is usually able to provide straightforward care for these special pets. However, we suggest you call the 24 hour vet clinic to discuss your concerns first.
