What to do in an emergency

Be prepared

Always be prepared for an emergency. When an emergency occurs, try to follow these basic rules.

  • Remember to keep calm.
  • Remove your pet from further injury and make sure the area is safe for everyone.
  • Call us for specific advice on how to provide first aid and nurse your pet until he / she can receive medical treatment.
  • Take a drive and find our clinic in some spare time. Although we are easy to find, when you’re stressed and worried about your pet, knowing how to find the emergency centre saves precious time.
  • Animals that are injured may become aggressive and will show changes in their behaviour. Even the most placid and loving pets can bite or scratch when they have been hurt or are in pain. Covering your pets head with a thick blanket can help reduce the stress for your pet and injury to you from bites.
  • Bring all of your pet’s current medications.
  • Keep a log of veterinary visits if your pet has a complicated medical illness.

You can download our Animal Information Sheet and use it to keep a record of each of your pets' details in case of an emergency.
