Crisis care specialists
AAE runs on the same principle as that of a human hospital emergency department our services extend far beyond what would normally be expected of an after hours vet.
Upon arrival, the triage nurse will assess the urgency with which your pet requires assistance, performing a preliminary examination, obtaining a basic history of the problem and taking record of your pet's vital signs.
As a 24 hour vet, Melbourne’s AAE is fully staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Being a specialist animal emergency centre, our vets and nurses are specially trained in emergency and critical care. A large number of our vets have completed postgraduate training in the field.
An animal hospital Melbourne pet owners can trust to care
In the same way that your GP can provide ongoing medial support, Melbourne animal hospitals need to recognise the importance of keeping your regular veterinary clinic up to date.
Whether your pet is admitted simply for an after hours vet check up or to our animal emergency centre in the event of a crisis, we will work together with your regular vet to manage ongoing care and progress checks.
And in the same way that you would visit a sick friend or relative, we encourage family visits. To ensure the comfort of your sick pet around the clock, our after hours vets also give plenty of pats and cuddles, providing emotional as well as medical support.
A state-of-the-art Melbourne animal hospital
AAE is a full-service animal hospital. Melbourne pet owners have access not only to our emergency department but our critical care unit, which is fully-equipped to deal with pets requiring intensive care. Medical assistance is provided by a 24 hour vet Melbourne pet owners can trust for expert care – we even receive referrals from Ballarat or Geelong.
Few Melbourne animal hospitals can boast animal emergency centres equipped with specialty resuscitation rooms, pathology departments and pharmacies stocked with medicines to treat even the most unusual ailments.
Our critical care unit houses a wide range of equipment for critically ill pets, including positive pressure ventilation units or respirators, enteral feeding and parenteral feeding catheters and diets, oxygen therapy and more. Seriously ill pets may need assistance from a team of doctors. At the critical care unit of the animal hospital Melbourne Veterinary Specialist Centre consultants and specialists provide additional support.
